Some Crowing 'bout the Oregon State Fair Vineyard News, Vol 9, August 2009
|
Along with watermelon seed spitting, fattened hogs and Midway rides, the
Oregon State Fair also boasts a serious wine competition. With nearly
300 wines submitted from over 40 wineries, the Competition’s panel of
wine professionals awarded only seven Gold Medals during the 2009
judging. Two of those coveted Golds went to Phelps Creek Vineyards for
our 2008 Unoaked Chardonnay and the 2007 Estate Reserve Chardonnay.
We entered both styles into the contest hoping to catch the judges
leaning towards either classic barrel fermented Chardonnay or the “new”
trend for Chardonnay fermented in stainless steel tanks. But just like so
many of our Tasting Room customers, the Jury deadlocked, deciding both
wines deserved special recognition.
